The British marque – famous for its handling-focused featherweight sports cars – is preparing to launch a large battery electric SUV. Here are some of the first teaser images.

Iconic British sports car maker Lotus has released the first teaser images of its upcoming electric SUV, dubbed the ‘Type 132’.

The grille close-up – which was published on social media earlier this week – reveals very little.

However, according to Lotus, an active shutter device will “improve cooling” and permit “enhanced frontal aerodynamics.”

Carbon-fibre highlights integrated into the splitter can also be made out in the picture, as can gold paint matching that of the E-R9 concept race car.

The Type 132 is slated for launch in 2022, however it’s still unclear if the model will be offered in Australian showrooms.

Teaser images from earlier this year suggest the marque’s future electric line-up will comprise two SUVs, one sedan, and a single sports car, in addition to the Emira.

This story will be updated with the latest Lotus Type 132 teaser images as they’re released. Stay tuned to Drive for all the latest updates.
