Lexus to launch plug-in hybrid later this year, first dedicated all-electric model in 2022

Toyota’s luxury marque Lexus has confirmed it will launch a plug-in hybrid model later this year, followed by its first ground-up all-electric car in 2022.

Further, the brand has committed to launching “more than 10” new electrified models by 2025, set to join the nine variants already on offer worldwide.

While the 2021 Lexus UX300e electric SUV – launched earlier this year – was the Japanese brand’s first battery-electric model, it was underpinned by the same platform as the existing petrol-powered UX200 and hybrid UX250h offerings. The yet-to-be-named upcoming model – which CarAdvice understands will likely take the form of a mid-size SUV – will be built on a dedicated electric skateboard chassis.

Neither model has so far been guaranteed for the local market, and a spokesperson for Lexus in Australia told CarAdvice: “We cannot confirm anything further at this stage.”
