Each weekend, our editors take turns looking through the docket of AutoHunter, the online collector car auction website driven by ClassicCars.com. We search for what appears to our eyes and our automotive tastes to be gems, that we then, in turn, share with you.
This week it’s my turn, and I’ve found a pair of pickups that look like fun but also should be practical for carrying what you need home from the hardware store or yard center.
1949 Ford F1 pickup truck
Someone, as it turns out the previous owner, went way overboard in the restoration and customization that turned this 1949 Ford F1 pickup truck in a stunningly green machine. The truck rides on a custom TCI frame and has a modern 302cid V8 engine, Mustang II front suspension, power steering and power front disc brakes, as well as air conditioning for an interior with power-adjustable bucket seats.
The engine has a hi-rise intake manifold, Edelbrock carburetor and Cobra valve covers. It also has an upgraded cooling system. The transmission is a 4-speed automatic that feeds a 9-inch rear.
The cab is done in tan, with 8-way power-adjustable leather bucket seats from a late-model GM truck. The steering column is chrome and adjustable. The factory radio was replaced with an updated stereo head unit with Bluetooth connectivity.
The truck bed not only has a wood floor but a custom cargo box. A custom-made rear valance with cutouts for the dual exhaust tips replaced the rear bumper, and teardrop tail lamps were added to the rear fenders.
The truck, located in New Hope, Pennsylvania, appears to be immaculate in the photos accompanying the advertisement. It also appears that the restoration/customization was done about 3,000 miles ago.
1972 Chevrolet C10
Vintage Chevrolet C10 pickup trucks are very much in demand with collector car buyers of late and this restored 1972 Chevy looks great in the photos displayed on AutoHunter.
According to the text, the truck was the subject of a multi-year restoration completed in May 202. The work included a new 400 horsepower, Blueprint 350cidV8 engine and automatic transmission, some new sheet metal, the grille from a 1970 Chevy, and the use of a 1967 C10 cab and updated interior, including air conditioning, wood steering wheel, dash and gauges, etc. The tail lamps also were flush mounted.
There are power disc brakes up front and the truck rides on 5-spoke wheels. Oh, and it rides 3-inches lower than standard, so it must look really good traveling down the road.
The truck has been driven only around 500 miles the restoration was completed. The seller adds that the engine and transmission have 50,000-mile warranties.
