The manufacturing conglomerate is looking to phase out its Modular Longitudinal Architecture due to emission concerns, according to a new report.
Jaguar Land Rover has axed its upcoming all-electric Range Rover ‘Road Rover’ project, according to a new report from Automotive News Europe.
Citing an investor call with the brand’s Chief Financial Officer Adrian Mardell, the report also claims the Jaguar J-Pace electric SUV had been pulled from development.
If accurate, this would mean the JLR Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) architecture – on which both models were set to be based – will now solely underpin large internal-combustion Land Rover models, such as the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
Mardell was quoted as saying JLR would be forced to “write off” the £1 billion (AU$1.8 billion) invested in the platform over the past three years, as the brand moved towards its ‘Reimagine’ strategy.
“There are costs involved, including the cancelation of the MLA-mid program, the XJ replacement, and the Land Rover BEV,” he noted.
