But then Peugeot got its French knickers in a bit of a twist about model naming conventions, claiming it owned the rights to all three-digit model nameplates featuring a ‘0’ in the middle. Not wanting a fracas with the French, Porsche simply substituted the ‘0’ with a ‘1’, giving the world the Porsche 911. The rest, as they, is geschichte (history).
