The zero-emission truck will closing match its Rivian rival on battery range.
The standard battery will reportedly permit 230 miles (370km) on the EPA testing cycle, while the Extended Range pack boosts this figure to 320 miles (515km).
The flagship Platinum variant drops down to 300 miles (482km) despite having the largest available battery – likely due to its larger tyres and higher ride height, which compromises aerodynamic efficiency.
For reference, the Rivian R1T – currently the Ford’s closest competitor in the electric pick-up segment – has a comparable range of 314 miles (505km) between charges.
The Tesla Cybertruck – which has been delayed multiple times – will reportedly have a maximum range of 500 miles (804km), however a functioning production version of the vehicles is yet to be seen.
The entry-level 2023 F-150 Lightning will start from $US39,974 ($AU55,000) in the USA for the base ‘Pro’ variant, while the range-topping Platinum is priced from $US90,874 ($AU120,000).
In the latter, dual motors send 420kW/1050Nm to all four wheels. This allows the benchmark 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in a claimed 4.5 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 177km/h.
