As the ninth film awaits its release, reports state the 11th movie in the F&F saga will be the last.

News out of the US claims the 11th Fast & Furious film will be the very last in the long-running movie franchise.

According to a report from Hollywood news website Deadline, Universal Pictures has tasked director Justin Lin with wrapping up the series, with a storyline expected to stretch across the final two films.

The latest movie, F9: The Fast Saga, was expected to be released in early 2020, but was delayed a full year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

By the time the 11th and final film is released, the Fast & Furious franchise will have spanned more than two decades, with the original film coming out in 2001.

The car-themed action movies had characters work on both sides of the law, but street racing with modified cars was always central to the storylines, featuring exotic supercars, American muscle cars and, famously, Japanese sports cars.
