Founded in 1913, GMSA began operations as a distributor of Chevrolet products before later moving to the production of GM marque vehicles from Vauxhall, Opel, Suzuki, and Isuzu. As part of the sweeping Anti-Apartheid Act of 1986, General Motors sold its South African operations with the new entity rebranded under the name Delta Motor Corporation. Under license, Delta retained the rights to assemble Opel, Suzuki, and Isuzu products but with little to no support from GM, in fact, the relationship became purely transactional.
