Callaway started by offering aftermarket turbocharger systems for BMW, Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz cars. Its first product was launched in 1977 and was a C1 VW turbo kit. It continued with building a racing engine for IndyCar specification and after that, a turbocharged kit for Alfa Romeo’s 2.5-liter GTV-6 coupé.
It was this last project that caught the attention of Dave McLellan – Chief Engineer of the Corvette – and it was in 1987 when Callaway offered its first twin-turbo Corvette under the Regular Production Option (RPO) B2K program. Now, 35 years later, Callaway celebrates the program’s anniversary with the launch of a special appearance package for the 2022 Corvette Z51.
