Cadillac unveiled the first step toward its electrically powered future with the release of images and information about its 2023 Lyriq, a vehicle, it said, that “is the culmination of a century of innovation and the beginning of a great new era.”
Rory Harvey, Cadillac vice president, added, “Throughout the next decade, Cadillac will define the future of luxury transportation through a series of exciting new electric vehicles, and it all begins with Lyriq,” which he said “will deliver a high-performance luxury experience unlike anything that has come before it, setting a new standard for Cadillac.”
Cadillac’s announcement noted that at launch, Lyriq, a sport-utility vehicle, will feature a 12-module, 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack and rear-driven platform with an estimated 340 horsepower, 324 pound-feet of torque and a range of more than 300 miles, the company said.
The company added that at public fast-charging stations, nearly 80 miles of range can be added in “about 10 minutes.” Home-charging units should provide more than 50 miles of travel per hour of charging, Cadillac added.
The vehicles will offer one-pedal driving with “Regen on Demand” technology that slows the car or brings it to a complete stop using a steering wheel paddle. The SUVs also will feature Super Cruise, “industry’s first true hands-free driver-assistance technology for compatible roads,” a 33-inch LED display screen, and 19-speak AKG Studio audio system.
“Lyriq represents a clean-sheet design that sets the standard for the future of Cadillac,” said Andrew Smith, executive director of Cadillac Design. “The objective I gave my team was to design the Lyriq with the level of detail that they would a show car. The customer should feel like they’re driving in the future.”
Cadillac said the SUV interiors will feature “intricate laser-etched patterns through wood over metal decor, which has never been done before.”
Production is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2022 with pricing starting at $59,990.
