Claimed to be the only Ferrari FXX engine offered to the general public, RM Sotheby’s estimates this rare V12 could sell for as much as £350,000 ($AU640,000).

Do you need a new engine for your Ferrari FXX track-only supercar, or are you just looking to add another interesting piece to your collection of automotive parts?

Auction house RM Sotheby’s has recently listed the brand new engine from a Ferrari FXX as a part of its “Garagista Collection”, estimating the 6.3-litre V12 could sell for anywhere between £200,000 and £350,000 – equivalent to approximately $AU365,000 and $AU640,000.

The listing claims it is the first-ever Ferrari FXX engine – codenamed Tipo F140 DA – to be sold as a new old stock (NOS) item, complete with its ancillary parts including air inlets and a wiring loom.

The Ferrari FXX was launched in 2005 as a track-only version of the Ferrari Enzo, with production initially limited to 29 examples – though the Italian car-maker added an extra car to the tally for one of its most important employees.

Chassis 30 was delivered to seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher after he retired from the sport at the end of the 2006 season. Schumacher and his Ferrari FXX  famously appeared in the opening episode of Top Gear’s 13th series, setting a lap time around the test track.

Ferrari claimed the FXX’s V12 engine could develop up to 588kW and 686Nm – about 100kW and 40kW more than the Enzo it is based on – but production of the F140 series continues today, powering the 812 GT car and upcoming Purosangue SUV.

According to the RM Sotheby’s listing, the engine will be delivered to the winning bidder in a crate, though the auction house suggests the V12 could “serve as a fantastic centrepiece in any collection” if it is mounted correctly.

Turning car parts into pieces of furniture is not new – numerous overseas companies offer coffee tables based on high-end engines.

Earlier this year, a Ferrari 360’s V8 engine which had been converted into a coffee table sold at a Bonhams auction in Paris for €22,950 ($AU36,700) – almost one-tenth of the lowest estimate for the FXX V12.

The Ferrari FXX engine auction – and all other lots in the “Garagista Collection” – are due to be auctioned online between March 22-29.
