That’s a very distinctive face for BMW’s next electric crossover concept…

BMW has revealed the face of its upcoming iNext SUV concept, in a new teaser video promoting the all-electric crossover.

It’s certainly going to be distinctive, with a tall take on the new kidney grille dominating its bulbous nose, flanked by slimline laser headlights. The flanks are dominated by pumped-up wheel arches and a tall window line, while the concept appears to have a sloping coupe-style roofline.

Down back, there are slimline tail-lights and a blue-lit diffuser. There’s a hint of Z8 about the whole thing, although the Vision iNext SUV is a much bigger, chunkier proposition than Henrik Fisker’s drop-top masterpiece.

When it launches, likely some time around 2021, the production iNext SUV will likely be offered with a range of batteries stretching from 60kWh to 120kWh in capacity, and electric motors producing between 100kW and 300kW.

The beauty of modular design, of course, is that any combination of battery and motor can be essentially slotted into the car, depending on trim.

“We will have flexible vehicle architectures on the one hand and modular systems for drivetrains on the other. This setup gives us an unparalleled level of flexibility in a global context,” Ian Robertson, member of the BMW board, said last year.

“The now fifth-generation of our e-drives will launch in 2021, with the BMW iNext. We are talking about a scalable modular system here, which means that the technology can also be fitted in models that will have been launched by then.”
