Show car previews the next-generation 4 Series coupe, including its ‘expressive face’.

The attention-grabbing BMW Concept 4 has been unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt motor show.

The silhouette and overall body are what we expected for the new two-door model, with the Concept 4 featuring a long bonnet, pushed back windscreen, and short rear deck.

As is the case with many cars today, the Concept 4 has large aggressively styled vents in the front bumper, and a big rear diffuser cut into the back.

The most eye-catching part of the design, though, is the tall grille with the fused-together kidneys, which is a dramatic departure from past 3 Series and 4 Series models.

According to the company, the Concept 4’s full-height grille is a modern interpretation of the design employed by the 328 and 3.0 CSi.

Domagoj Dukec, design director for the BMW brand, says the concept’s grille is a “confident and classy take on this iconic feature”, which provides “a look ahead to the expressive face of the 4 Series range”.

The Concept 4 rides on 21-inch alloy wheels, but the company has not revealed any details about the car’s drivetrain.

In production we expect the 4 Series range to feature many, if not all, the engine options available in the 3 Series sedan and wagon.
