Up for auction on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is a 1971 Datsun 240Z subject to a repaint over a largely rust-free original body and upgraded with a PerTronix ignition system.
“Datsun’s first Z-car launched in 1969 on the S30 platform, and this example from two years later is considered a Series 1 based on design elements consistent with early models, including 240Z badging on the sail panels, a vertical rear defroster, and air vents on the rear hatch,” the auction site says in the car’s listing.
The body has been resprayed in its original New Sight Orange paint and features chrome trim, driver side-view mirror, bumpers with guards and window surroundings.
Inside, the interior houses reupholstered black vinyl bucket seats with matching door panels, dash and replacement carpeting. Other features include a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a factory AM sound system and sound-deadening material in the rear cargo area.
Power comes from a numbers-matching L24 2.4-liter single-overhead camshaft inline-6 engine connected to a 4-speed manual transmission. The engine is factory rated at 151 horsepower.
The odometer shows 51,056 miles, although true chassis mileage is unknown.
