While perusing the docket over on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, this bright red 1968 Pontiac GTO caught my eye.
The auction house notes this convertible received a multi-year cosmetic and mechanical restoration under the seller’s 15-year ownership.
“Available initially as an option package in 1964 on the midsized Pontiac LeMans, the GTO name later became a standalone model in 1966,” AutoHunter says in the car’s listing. “The GTO along with other General Motors A-body cars subsequently received a rework beginning in 1968, adopting a ‘semi-fastback’ design, a reduced overall length, and a lowered ride height.”
This second-generation GTO example up for auction features a replacement power-operated white retractable top with a glass rear window, hideaway headlights, a color-matched Endura front bumper, hood air intakes and dual exhaust outlets.
The matching red interior houses reupholstered vinyl fold-forward bucket seats, a center console, tilt steering wheel and an AM/FM radio.
Power comes from a 350-horsepower 400cid V8 upgraded with an Edelbrock intake, an HEI distributor, finned aluminum valve covers, stainless-steel fuel lines, replacement spark plug wires and a GTO Judge air filter assembly. The engine is linked to a replacement 200R4 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.

The odometer shows 24,039 miles, although true chassis mileage is unknown.
