Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com is this 1964 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertible that’s been refinished inside and out.
This Karmann Ghia came to fruition with the help of Karmann, a coachbuilding company in Osnabrück, Germany, and Luigi Segre, the head of design for Carrozzeria Ghia, an Italian automobile design firm and was in production from 1955 to 1974 with the convertible option introduced in 1957.
The example up for auction was resprayed in red and features a new retractable soft top, a snap-on boot for the retracted roof and brightwork consisting of front and rear bumpers with overriders, window trim, handles, grilles and a scripted Karmann Ghia emblem on the rear.
Inside you’ll find reupholstered two-tone black-and-tan cloth bucket seats and matching door panels. The convertible has a color-matched red dash, and the steering wheel has a Wolfsburg Castle crest at its center. An AM/FM/CD stereo is installed in the glove compartment.
Power comes from a rear-mounted, single-carbureted 1.2-liter flat-4 connected to a 4-speed manual transaxle.
