For the 1955 model year, GM gave its Chevy Bel Airs a full redesign to the famous “shoebox” style with flatter, smoother sheet metal side panels, triangle taillights and a wraparound windshield.
AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, has one of these shoebox-styled 1955 Chevrolet Bel Airs up for auction.
This two-door example received a cosmetic restoration under prior ownership in which the body was repainted in Dark Blue Metallic and the brightwork replaced.
The interior houses reupholstered gray cloth and leather seating with color-matched belts, headliner and door panels. Full-width bright Bel Air bowtie trim accents the dark blue dash.
Interior amenities include a push-button Autosound radio with dual 6×9 rear deck speakers, an analog clock, tinted windows, cigarette lighter, electric windshield wipers and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Power comes from a replacement and rebuilt 350cid V8, equipped with an Edelbrock carburetor and aluminum radiator, and connected to a 700R 4-speed automatic transmission.
The five-digit odometer reads 26,589 miles, although true chassis mileage is unknown.
