Aston Martin is preparing to unveil a new sports car next week – which could be the Volante convertible version of the latest Aston Martin DB12 coupe.

British luxury car-maker Aston Martin has announced it will unveil a new model later this month – tipped to be the DB12 Volante convertible.

In a media announcement, Aston Martin confirmed its plans to attend the iconic Pebble Beach car show in California on August 18, bringing with it the recently-revealed Valour and the AMR23 Formula One car.

However, the British marque also announced it intends to use the show for the “world-first debut of a new model” – which reports claim may be the DB12 Volante, the convertible version of its latest ‘grand tourer’ coupe.

While the Aston Martin DB12 coupe was revealed in May, the DB12 Volante was recently spied testing at the Nürburging in Germany – covered in camouflage and sharing design cues with its fixed-roof sibling.

Though Aston Martin has not confirmed the DB12 Volante will be revealed at Pebble Beach, the brand’s executive chairman – Lawrence Stroll, father of Aston Martin Formula One driver Lance – has previously said the convertible’s unveiling would follow the coupe.

As previously reported, the Aston Martin DB12 Volante is expected to feature the same 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen as found in the coupe, while pop-out door handles and wheel arch air vents are expected to carry over from its DB11 Volante predecessor.

The Aston Martin DB12 Volante will also be powered by the Mercedes-AMG-sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which features in the coupe, good for 500kW and 800Nm.

It’s not clear whether Aston Martin’s twin-turbo V12 engine will feature in the DB12 range, if it will be saved for the more expensive DBS, or if the engine has been axed entirely.

Aston Martin’s next model is due to be revealed between August 18 and 20 at Pebble Beach, California.
