Plans for a new range of front- and mid-engined Aston Martin sports cars are on track, according to the company’s chairman, as well as a new electric car.
Aston Martin is set to launch eight new front-engine models over the next two years, according to the British automaker’s outspoken chairman – nad owner of its Formula One team – Lawrence Stroll.
Speaking at the Financial Times’ Future of the Car summit in London on Tuesday, Mr Stroll said: “We’ve got our next generation of sports cars and will launch eight in the next 24 months.”
“We will bring in new technology, have performance from our F1 team integrated into the business, and continue the luxury.”
Among the planned new Aston Martin models are replacements for the DB11, Vantage, and DBS, according to officials at the company’s headquarters in the UK.
Included among the eight front-engined models confirmed by Stroll are convertible variants, officials suggest.
Mr Stroll, a part owner of Aston Martin, indicated the future line-up will include a new flagship front-engined model.
“We’ve created a new sector above GT. A true high level of luxury with a high level of performance. Something new,” he said.
The Canadian billionaire businessman, who also controls the Aston Martin F1 team, said the British sports-car specialist was also developing new mid-engined models, starting with the previously-confirmed, twin-turbo V8 hybrid Valhalla due next year.
“There will be a mid-engine sports car legitimately using F1 technology,” Stroll said of the new, unseen hybrid sports car.
The executive said Aston Martin remains on track to launch its first electric model in 2025, saying further details would be made public at the company’s planned capital markets day for investors set to take place on 27 June 2023.
“The software components have been decided. We have hired several hundred people and brought lots of competency in house. It still has to be an Aston Martin experience with [electric power],” said Mr Stroll.
Drive has previously reported on plans for an Aston Martin electric sports car and SUV in 2025 and 2026.
