The Hyundai Ioniq 6 line-up has grown from three to seven variants, with a new shorter-range base model slashing the starting price – though it is still more expensive than a Tesla Model 3.

  • 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 pricing and specifications
  • Range reshuffled with base, Dynamiq and Epiq variants
  • Entry-level Standard Range battery available on base model with 429km claimed driving range
  • Priced from $65,500 plus on-road costs

The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 line-up will feature a new less-expensive, shorter-range version of the electric sedan, as the model range is expanded from three to seven variants.

Following in the footsteps of its Ioniq 5 sibling, the Hyundai Ioniq 6’s variant line-up has been reshuffled for 2024.

Previously, the Ioniq 6 was offered in three grades – the entry-level rear-wheel-drive Dynamiq, the mid-range all-wheel-drive Techniq and the flagship Epiq.

A new self-titled Ioniq 6 variant – now available with a choice of two batteries, a new 53kWh Standard Range and carry-over 77.4kWh Extended Range pack – fills the role of the previous entry-level Dynamiq.

The role of the middle-of-the-range Techniq has been replaced by the new Dynamiq, with the Extended Range battery and rear- or all-wheel drive.

Priced from $65,500 plus on-road costs, the 53kWh Hyundai Ioniq 6 Standard Range is $8500 less expensive than the current 77.4kWh Ioniq 6 Dynamiq, while the 77.4kWh Extended Range version starts from $71,500 plus on-road costs (down $2500 due to less equipment than before).

The smaller-battery Ioniq 6’s $65,500 price tag brings it closer to the upcoming facelifted Tesla Model 3.

However it is still more expensive – the Tesla is priced from $61,900 before on-road costs and mandatory order/delivery fees – and Hyundai claims 429km of driving range from the Ioniq 6’s 53kWh battery pack, compared to the 513km figure claimed by Tesla’s 60kWh battery.

The entry-level Hyundai Ioniq 6 is powered by a 111kW/350Nm electric motor on its rear axle, producing significantly less than the Tesla Model 3’s circa-208kW/430Nm outputs.

Hyundai has made changes to the Ioniq 6 Dynamiq, which can now be ordered as an all-wheel-drive variant alongside the existing rear-wheel-drive layout – however the latter’s price has increased by $3500 to $77,500 plus on-road costs.

The flagship Hyundai Ioniq 6 Epiq is now available in rear-wheel-drive form, at a $3500 discount compared to the all-wheel-drive grade, which is also $1788 cheaper than before (as camera mirrors are now optional, not standard).

Standard equipment across the Hyundai Ioniq 6 line-up now includes a heat pump (which repurposes excess battery heat to warm the cabin), and a battery conditioning system (used in cold climates to prepare the battery for fast charging, to optimise charging speed) – both previously reserved for the top-of-the-line Epiq.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 Dynamiq is now fitted with 20-inch wheels as standard – reducing the rear-wheel-drive grade’s driving range from 614km with an 18-inch wheel, to 545km.

The 77.4kWh rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 6 continues to be powered by a 168kW/350Nm electric motor, while all-wheel-drive variants gain a 74kW/255Nm front electric motor, resulting in combined outputs of 239kW/605Nm and a claimed driving range of 519km.

The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 is available to order now.
