  • Blind-spot safety tech now standard on Toyota HiLux SR5, prices up by $1260
  • Rogue gets wider track, four-wheel-discs, Rugged X dropped
  • Priced from $24,255 before on-road costs

Pricing and specifications for the 2023 Toyota HiLux ute have been announced, with prices for the popular SR5 variant rising by $1250 when it arrives in Australian showrooms later this year.

As previously reported by Drive, Toyota’s biggest updates have been applied to the HiLux SR5 grade, as the new flagship variant is equipped with a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert and 360-degree camera as standard.

An immobiliser is now standard on the Toyota HiLux SR5 – replacing the steering column lock which remains on the less-expensive Workmate and SR grades – while heated exterior mirrors are taken off the equipment list in favour of puddle lamps.

The Toyota HiLux SR is fitted with body-coloured door handles across the line-up, with black 17-inch alloys replacing the steel wheels on SR extra-cab and double-cab variants.

Australia’s most popular new vehicle has been reduced to three grades – Workmate, SR and SR5 – as Toyota has dropped the HiLux Rogue and Rugged X variants from its 2023 range.

The HiLux Workmate 4×2 double-cab Hi-Rider diesel manual has also been omitted from the 2023 ute range.

Toyota offers 29 versions of the HiLux to Australian customers, available across five body styles, three engines and two transmissions plus rear-wheel or four-wheel-drive layouts.

The entry-level HiLux Workmate variants are available in single-cab or double-cab body styles, powered by a choice of two engines – a 122kW/245Nm 2.7-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine or a 110kW/400Nm 2.4-litre, turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine.

Workmate variants can be ordered in two- or four-wheel-drive, fitted with a five-speed manual (petrol), six-speed manual (diesel) or six-speed automatic (petrol and diesel) transmission.

Stepping up to the HiLux SR and SR5, the two variants continue to be powered by a 150kW/500Nm 2.8-litre, turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine.

SR and SR5 variants are available in single-cab, extra-cab and double-cab body styles across both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel drive layouts – equipped with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

Premium paint is available for an additional $675.

All Toyota HiLux variants come with a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.

The 2023 Toyota HiLux will arrive in Australian showrooms later this year, with dealers telling Drive they are expecting deliveries as early as November 2022.
