New spy photos have emerged showing the five-door Suzuki Jimny undisguised, ahead of its possible unveiling next month.
The much-anticipated 2023 Suzuki Jimny five-door has been caught without camouflage while filming a television commercial in India.
Images posted online show the five-door Jimny undisguised for the first time, just one month before Suzuki is expected to unveil the vehicle at a motor show in India, according to local media reports.
Drive understands the five-door version could arrive in Australia showrooms in late 2023, though Suzuki Australia declined to comment on future product plans.
Much of the car’s features have carried over from the three-door model, but the five-door’s wheelbase is believed to have been extended by 300mm to 2550mm, allowing for a second row of occupants while offering some luggage space.
While engine options have not been confirmed, the likely scenario is the five-door Jimny will carry over the existing 1.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder engine from the three-door model currently on sale in Australia.
Both four-speed automatic and five-speed manual transmissions are also expected, with 75kW/130Nm sent to all four wheels.
However, a number of previous reports have suggested a hybrid version is being developed by Suzuki, and could be introduced in the coming years.
Curiously, there doesn’t appear to be any extra badging on the rear of the car, meaning the new model could simply be known as the Jimny five-door, instead of adopting a special variant name.
The images also shows almost half of the rear wheel arch flares will attach to the back doors.
While not confirmed by the company, it’s expected the 2023 Suzuki Jimny five-door will make its global debut at the Auto Expo motor show in India in mid January, with local deliveries likely to begin in late 2023.
