The first details of the new Subaru Crosstrek line-up and engines have been revealed for Australia, ahead of the car’s local launch.

The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek is one step closer to Australia, with government documents revealing more about the car’s local specifications.

Documents published by the Department of Infrastructure have revealed the Crosstrek will be offered with a 2.0-litre non-turbo four-cylinder engine, with or without hybrid-electric assistance.

Buyers will be able to choose from the entry-level Crosstrek 2.0i-L, 2.0i-S, Hybrid L, or range-topping Crosstrek Hybrid S.

It appears as if the range has been slimmed down ever more, with the 2.0i Premium variant disappearing from the list – joining the base 2.0i (no suffix) which was axed from the XV line-up in April 2021.

Performance figures for the new Crosstrek won’t be available until Subaru launches the model locally in the coming months, though the numbers are expected to be either the same or close to those of the outgoing XV, which produced 115kW/196Nm in standard guise and 110kW/196Nm in the hybrid version.

Drive will be sent to all four wheels through a continuously-variable automatic transmission (CVT), with eight simulated gear ratios – up from seven in the XV.

Australian models are also expected to receive an 11.6-inch portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless phone charging.

Subaru has increased the number of airbags in the new Crosstrek, accompanying a full suite of safety features including autonomous emergency braking with intersection support, lane-keep assist, and a new stereo camera unit to better identify pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcycles.

Full pricing and specifications for the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek will be revealed at the model’s local launch in the coming months.
