2023 Nissan Z and Ariya Japanese orders suspended, Australian supply unaffected

Nissan’s incoming sports car and electric SUV are the latest to be hit by the semiconductor shortage.

Orders for the 2023 Nissan Z coupe and Nissan Ariya electric SUV have been suspended in Japan due to an ongoing shortage of semiconductors.

As reported by Carscoops, the Nissan Z coupe (named the Fairlady Z in Japan) and the Ariya electric vehicle have become the latest victims of the ongoing global chip crunch, as well as new rounds of production line absenteeism triggered by the latest wave of COVID-19.

Nissan said its decision to suspend new orders in Japan until the end of July was to prioritise the production of vehicles already ordered by customers in its domestic market.

Although the Nissan Z is fast-approaching its local debut, Nissan Australia told Drive the suspension of orders in Japan only affects the company’s home market and won’t impact local deliveries.

While only the single-motor, rear-wheel-drive variant of the Ariya has been affected by the order pause in Japan, high demand for the all-wheel-drive powertrains is set to further blow out wait times in its home market.
