The MG 4 – an electric car the size of a Toyota Corolla – will be priced from less than $50,000 when it arrives in local showrooms.

Prices for the entry-level models in the MG 4 range – with smaller 51kWh battery packs – are yet to be revealed.

Drive has previously reported there will be three models in the MG 4 range: an entry-grade, standard-range model, a high-specification, standard-range model, and the high-specification, long-range 64kWh Essence variant.

The first showroom arrivals are due in the second half of this year, with drive-away prices to vary between states and territories depending on stamp duty and registration fees.

The most affordable electric vehicles currently on sale in Australia are the $44,490 to $47,891 drive-away GWM Ora Standard Range hatch, and the $46,195 to $49,130 drive-away MG ZS EV Excite.

The MG ZS EV Excite standard range is priced from $43,990 plus on-road costs, with the better-equipped, standard-range MG ZS EV Essence at $47,990 plus on-road costs, and the ZS EV Essence Long Range at $55,990 plus on-road costs.

These launch models are single-motor rear-wheel drive. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive version with 330kW is available overseas, and under consideration for Australia.
