BMW’s new X1 has broken cover early in leaked images, ahead of tomorrow’s reveal.

Images published by Instagram’s Wilcoblok show the new X1 in full, with BMW’s latest design language, interior tech, and the model-first option of an all-electric variant, badged iX1.

The third-generation X1’s styling blends elements from BMW’s latest models, with smooth door surfacing from the 2 Series Active Tourer hatch, LED headlights akin to the new 3 Series, and trademark L-shaped tail-light signatures.

The electric iX1 can be distinguished by unique bumpers, plenty of bright blue trim pieces, and i badging.

But like the Active Tourer, the iDrive rotary infotainment controller – debuted 20 years ago on the 7 Series limo – is no more, making way for a floating centre console design with a wireless charger and a ‘shift-by-wire’ button gear selector.

Revealed in the images is one of the electric iX1 powertrain options – likely badged xDrive30 – featuring dual electric motors developing 200kW in normal driving, with a further 30kW of ‘boost’ power available on demand.

A range of conventional petrol and diesel engines is expected to be offered, expected to include a 100kW sDrive18i petrol, 120kW xDrive20i petrol, 160kW xDrive23i petrol, 100kW sDrive18d diesel, 145kW xDrive23d diesel, and a US-specific 180kW xDrive28i petrol.

Meanwhile, a plug-in hybrid xDrive30e is also rumoured, offering up to 240kW in its sportiest mode.

The 2023 BMW X1 and iX1 range will be revealed tomorrow morning. Australian deliveries are likely towards the end of this year, or early next year.
