The Tesla Model Y SUV will likely hit local roads this year. Here’s everything we know about the world’s biggest electric car maker’s plans for Australia in 2022.
US electric car specialist Tesla had an impressive 2021, with estimates suggesting as many as 10,000 cars delivered locally – 40 per cent more than the 12 months prior.
Communicating future plans isn’t Tesla’s strong suit, however the evidence so far suggests the Model Y SUV will likely go on sale in Australia at some point this year. You can read our analysis in full by clicking here.
The Model S and Model X could also conceivably become available again in 2022, though the recent decision to remove pricing, specifications, and variants from the local configurator would indicate this is far from guaranteed. The facelifted models were previously slated for launch at the end of 2022.
The Roadster sports car is still on the horizon, however launch dates have come and gone with little new information.
A long-rumoured entry-level small car – likely a hatchback, and tentatively dubbed the ‘Model 2’ – may also be destined for reveal during the next 12 months, but it’s unlikely to go into production for several years.
