Despite several hurdles in recent week, the launch of the much-anticipated performance model is imminent.
The all-new 2022 Subaru WRX is now less than three weeks from launch, with a September 10 reveal event confirmed overnight by the Japanese manufacturer.
The announcement came alongside a revealing new teaser video, which provides the best look yet at the next-generation all-wheel drive performance model.
As previously reported by previously reported by Drive, a showreel published last week confirms the return of a traditional manual transmission and old-school handbrake lever (shown below).
The 2022 Subaru WRX was initially slated to launch at this year’s New York Motor Show, however the event was cancelled in early August due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
It’s expected the four-door will touchdown in Australian showrooms during the first quarter of 2022 (January to March inclusive). A spokesperson for Subaru locally told Drive pricing “will be announced closer to launch.” For reference, the current-generation WRX starts from $40,990 before on-road costs.
Unconfirmed industry rumours suggest the newcomer will be powered by a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder ‘boxer’ petrol engine, with an output in excess of 210kW.
He has maintained a primary focus on industry trends, autonomous technology, electric vehicle regulations, and local environmental policy.
