The trident-brand’s upcoming SUV met its match overnight in Italy, coming off worst in a head-on collision with a lamp post.
As first reported by La Repubblica and Instagram account Wilcoblok, the incident happened at a roundabout at the Piazza Polonia in the northern city of Turin overnight.
A Ford was also reportedly involved in the crash, however no one was seriously injured. It’s unclear if the incident will impact the all-new vehicle’s development schedule.
“Dates are yet to be finalised; however, the new model will likely arrive in local showrooms during the first second of next year,” a spokesperson for Ateco, Maserati’s Australian importer, told Drive at the time.
Engine options and performance specifications have not yet been announced. However, industry rumours suggest a 2.0-litre mild-hybrid turbocharged petrol four-cylinder will be offered in entry-level variants.
Range-topping Trofeo models will likely be powered by a Alfa Romeo-derived 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, or a detuned 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 from the MC20 supercar.
Australian pricing is yet to be be finalised. The model will almost certainly slot under the larger $127,000 (before on-road costs) Maserati Levante SUV – currently the brand’s best selling model.
