Mahindra’s next mid-size SUV has been revealed, fitted with the Indian car maker’s all-new badge.

The 2022 Mahindra XUV700 has been unveiled, providing our first look at the company’s new mid-size family SUV.

Set to replace the XUV500, the new model was shown wearing Mahindra’s new corporate branding, which the company calls its ‘twin peaks’ logo.

Riding on a new ‘W601’ platform, the new XUV700 offers a sleeker design than the XUV500, while carrying over the previous model’s C-shaped design language at the front end – employing a similar daytime-running light signature to the Renault Koleos.

The new Mahindra also gets flush door handles and LED lights front and rear, with wheel designs in both 17-inch and 18-inch sizes, depending on the grade.

Occupants get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and a 360-degree camera on an infotainment screen up to 10.25 inches across, matched in size with a digital instrument cluster, and all housed in a single dashboard panel.

Models offered overseas will be available with either five or seven seats, with features such as a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, cabin air purifier, powered driver’s seat, and keyless entry and start.

Mahindra has extended the wheelbase by 50mm to 2750mm, while the XUV700’s height is now 30mm below the XUV500’s. Overall length is 4695mm – 110mm more than the outgoing model – while its width remains at 1890mm.

The XUV700 will be available with two engine options: a 147kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, and a 114kW 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder available with 420Nm and 450Nm when paired to the six-speed manual or six-speed automatic respectively. All-wheel drive is optional.

While Mahindra is known around the world for its tractors and agricultural equipment, as a car maker, it has yet to establish a foothold in the Australian market – though as the company does not report sales figures, the strength of the brand locally is unknown.
