The wiring defect could cause an electrical overload leading to a fire, according to the recall notice.
Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled 57 examples of its 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, citing a manufacturing defect with the van’s alternator and electric steering wiring.
The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a manufacturing issue, the alternator wiring and the electric steering wiring may not be installed correctly.
“The wiring harness could be damaged due to being overloaded and could result in a vehicle fire.
“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

Mercedes-Benz reported 3067 examples of the Sprinter and Sprinter Bus as sold throughout 2021.
