Just two models accounted for almost half of Mercedes-Benz sales in 2020. So what will 2021 bring for the German brand?
Mercedes-Benz cemented its place as Australia’s leading luxury carmaker in 2020, its 26,350 passenger vehicles sales to the end of November placing it well ahead of arch rivals BMW and Audi. Almost half of those sales comprised just two models – A-Class and GLC-Class – underscoring the buying public’s taste for small cars and medium SUVs.
Low-volume, high-end models are destined for our shores in 2021, with the all-new S-Class to be joined by a new Maybach S Class and a couple of new AMG models including, hopefully, the latest in Mercedes-AMG’s übercar portfolio, the GT Black Series.
At the other end of the spectrum, the Mercedes-Benz Vito van is long overdue a facelift. It arrives in the first quarter of 2021, although Australia will again miss out on the all-electric eVito due to ‘production constraints’.
