If a hot exhaust gas leaks under the bonnet, the risk of a fire could be increased, according to the manufacturer.
Jaguar Land Rover Australia has recalled 533 examples of the 2021 Land Rover Defender and 2021 Land Rover Discovery off-road SUVs, citing a potential fire risk.
The affected vehicles were sold between 2 November 2020 and 11 March 2021 (Model Year 2021).
The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says: “The fixing nuts which connect the exhaust downpipe to the catalytic convertor may not have been tightened to specification – the fixings may loosen over time, which may cause a hot exhaust gas leak into the engine bay.”
“If a hot exhaust gas leak occurs, this may cause localised heat damage and, if sustained, can lead to under bonnet smoke and a vehicle fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk injury or death to vehicle occupants or bystanders,” the notice continues.
