Kia’s answer to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been teased ahead of a global unveil later this month.
The 2021 Kia EV6 – which is the company’s first dedicated electric car and a twin to the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 – has been teased ahead of its official unveiling later this month.
While details are scarce, information released so far on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 could provide a clue to what we can expect.
The flagship variant of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a claimed maximum driving range of 470 to 480km.
That model sends 160kW/350Nm to the rear wheels, allowing for the 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in a claimed 7.4 seconds.
A high-performance variant of the EV6 is expected to be offered, understood to utilise the full capabilities of the electric model’s E-GMP architecture, with a 3.5-second 0-100km/h sprint time and a 260km/h top speed.
In a media statement, Kia designer Karim Habib said the Kia EV6 “is the embodiment of … our new design philosophy.”
The Kia EV6 is expected to be unveiled globally by the end of March 2021.
Although Kia has released electric versions of the Soul and Niro hatchbacks before, this is its first electric-only model. The Kia Soul and Niro were also available with the choice of petrol power.
Kia says all its future electric vehicles will get the “EV” prefix, to streamline naming conventions and distinguish zero-emissions models.
