Hyundai’s smallest hot hatch will arrive by the end of the year with a sharp starting price and plenty of standard equipment.

The 2021 Hyundai i20 N’s arrival in Australian showrooms has been pushed back to October – six months after its original planned introduction.

According to information released today by Hyundai Australia, the new i20 N hot hatch will cost from $32,490 before on-road costs when it arrives in Australia in late 2021 – just $200 more than its closest rival, the Ford Fiesta ST.

Under the bonnet is the brand’s familiar 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 150kW and 275Nm (or 304Nm on overboost) to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox and a mechanical limited-slip differential.

Hyundai Europe quotes a 6.2-second 0-100km/h sprint time, towards a top speed of 230km/h. Pirelli tyres wrap around 18-inch alloy wheels, and these are joined by variable sports exhaust, drive mode selector (with an N mode), 320mm front performance brakes, and rev-matching functionality.

All features offered in Europe are standard in Australia, including a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, digital radio and satellite navigation, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, seven-speaker Bose premium sound system, (single-zone) climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, reversing camera and LED headlights and tail-lights.

There’s also a set of front sports seats (with fabric trim), leather-wrapped steering wheel, metallic pedals, front and rear parking sensors, wireless phone charging, folding mirrors, automatic wipers, and a space-saver spare wheel.

Standard safety features include autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, manual cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitoring, and tyre pressure monitoring.

Six colours are available – Polar White, Performance Blue, Sleek Silver, Phantom Black and Dragon Red – with some costing an extra $495. A two-tone Phantom Black roof can be had on all non-black base colours for an extra $1000.

The 2021 Hyundai i20 N will go on sale in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2021 (October to December inclusive), with the first cars understood to hit showrooms around October.
