New model will ride on the company’s latest architecture already used by the Camry and Avalon.
The next-generation Toyota Highlander has been teased ahead of its debut at the 2019 New York motor show next week.
The teaser image above is actually part of a 3D art installation featuring 200 cardboard pieces suspended from the ceiling.
From most angles, it’s an unintelligible mess, but viewed directly side on, it previews the fourth-generation crossover.
Under the skin, the new Highlander, which will likely be sold again as the Kluger in Australia, is expected to ride on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA).
Versions of this platform are already found underneath the latest Prius, C-HR, Corolla and Camry models. If those vehicles are any guide, the new Kluger should be lighter, more nimble, a bit more efficient, and more fun to drive.
The company has yet to provide further details about the new Kluger, but seating for up to seven people, and front- and all-wheel drive options are virtually guaranteed.
Power will probably come from the company’s 3.5-litre V6, which in Camry makes 224kW of power and 362Nm of torque, and is tied to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
