The sturdy and dependable Toyota Corolla compact sedan was fully redesigned for the 2020 model year on a new platform with upgrades that make it more stylish and more interesting — and extend its appeal beyond being the practical and conservative buying decision.

The Corolla now gives you options beyond the conventional sedan. It also offers a hybrid sedan version that has near-Prius mileage ratings. Plus, it has a sportier hatchback variant that previewed the sedan’s changes when it rolled out as a late 2019 model, making its debut with the new Corolla styling, the improved chassis and an additional gasoline powertrain; the hatch continues without significant changes for 2020.
So many choices. The sedan is the sensible one. The hybrid is slower but even more sensible — Prius mileage without the “Hey, I’m the green one” Prius styling. And the hatchback, well, that’s the fun one — particularly if you go for the “smart” stick shift. I wasn’t a fan of past Corollas, so I’ve been surprised to find each of the new ones enjoyable in its own way.
