New variant gets CR-V engine along with sporty cosmetic and suspension enhancements in Britain.
Honda UK has revealed and detailed the 2019 HR-V Sport, a new version of the company’s compact SUV that is scheduled to go on sale in the first half of next year.
Based on the updated MY19 HR-V, the Sport grade gets a number of enhancements compared to lesser models, headlined by the 134kW 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine out of the Civic and CR-V.
Available with both six-speed manual and CVT automatic transmissions, the turbo unit generates maximum power at 5500rpm (6000rpm CVT), while 240Nm of torque is available between 1900 and 5000rpm (220Nm CVT, 1700-5500rpm).
Under the skin, Honda has made changes to the steering and suspension for a sportier drive – similar to the RS variant offered locally.
There’s a new variable-ratio steering system which claims to offer “a steady response at on-centre and near-centre steering angles, and a smoother response at off-centre steering angles”, while the model-specific ‘Performance Damper’ system for flatter cornering, enhanced stability, and reduced vibration over uneven surfaces.
Honda has sprinkled some sport-themed changes to the exterior and interior as well, including a gloss black panel for the ‘Solid Wing Face’ insert between the headlights, a black honeycomb grille and fog-light surround, and 18-inch black alloys. Other enhancements include black body kit extensions for the bumpers and side skirts, dual exhaust pipes, and black mirror caps.
For the cabin, there’s new sports seats trimmed in black/dark red, along with a black roof liner.
The 2019 Honda HR-V Sport will commence production in December, with first UK deliveries commencing in “spring 2019”.
Australia
Honda’s local division ruled out the introduction of a turbocharged HR-V for Australia when the updated European range was released earlier this year, saying there’s “no plans for that engine for us locally”.
