First images of flagship snake pony surface on Instagram ahead of 2019 US market release.

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has been ousted on social media, giving us a first look at the manic pony-snake flagship.

Posted on Instagram by user sinister_lifestyle, the blue example you see pictured features a new set of massive alloy wheels, a unique front fascia, a more aggressive body kit, and a massive fixed rear wing.

No new official details have been released yet, though we do know the GT500 will be powered by a 700hp (522kW) supercharged V8, making it the “most powerful street-legal production Ford ever”.

From the overhead teaser (above) released in May, we can also see vents in the centre of the bonnet that appear to form part of a prominent power bulge.

The Blue Oval has also said previously the GT500 will feature “new innovative track technologies [and] performance hardware”, though we’re not exactly sure what that is at this stage.

It’s expected the GT500 will be more than just a drag strip specialist like previous iterations, with the upgraded aero kit and mechanicals likely giving it ample cornering ability – think of it as a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 rival.

Australia

The Shelby GT500 is scheduled to go on sale in the North American market sometime next year, though local product communications boss, Damion Smy, told CarAdvice recently that there are no plans for the new model at this stage.

“The recently announced Mustang Shelby GT500 is a US-market model. We have no announcements to make regarding this model for Australia,” he said.
