New wagon shares more athletic look with its sedan sibling

The new BMW 3 Series Touring seems to be close to its full public unveiling, as these latest prototype cars have shed a significant amount of camouflage.

Compared to the vehicles spied back in August, the vehicles seen here are completely camouflage-free ahead of the B-pillar. And, in a surprise to no-one, the new wagon is identical to the latest 3 Series sedan from the front doors forward.

The changed portion of the rear door, the rear quarter panels, and the boot lid are all still disguised, though. Despite the eye-distracting covering, we can see the new wagon is a gentle evolution from today’s car.

It does include slimmer and more sculpted tail-lights, just like its sedan sibling.

Under the bonnet the Touring will be offered with most, if not all, the turbocharged four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines found in the recently unveiled sedan.

A report in Autocar last month claimed BMW is seriously considering making a wagon version of the next M3.
