G20-generation mid-sizer is getting ready for launch. How do you feel about the new nose?
BMW has provided our clearest look yet at the next-generation (G20) 3 Series, ahead of a likely reveal at the Paris motor show in October.
Although a series of spy pictures, pre-production testing photos and renders have given us a pretty good sense for how the 3 Series will look, there’s something to be said for seeing it officially… under a sheet… in the dark.
Gone are the angular ‘halo’ running lights, replaced by a twin L-shaped signature. The larger, conjoined kidney grille popping up across the BMW range also features – it’s likely to be controversial, based on previous feedback.

The range will predominately comprise of four-cylinder engines. The 330i will be a four-pot, making around 190kW and 400Nm in partnership with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. A six-cylinder 340i will be offered, but it’ll come after launch.
Under the skin, the car will ride on a version of the modular CLAR architecture already underpinning the 5- and 7 Series, with lightweight materials like aluminium and magnesium helping shed around 50kg from the previous model.
