Faulty internal parts could cause an engine failure in some Kia Seltos models, according to the recall.

Kia Australia has recalled 4647 examples of its 2019-2020 Kia Seltos citing a potential fault with the 2.0-litre engine in S, Sport and Sport+ models.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “The piston rings fitted to certain vehicles may not meet manufacturing specifications and could cause engine failure and vehicle stalling. This will result in an unexpected loss of vehicle power.”

The notice warns a sudden loss of power while driving can cause an accident.

An inspection of the engine can be organised through a Kia dealership, with a replacement available if it’s found to be damaged – all free of charge.

“During this inspection, an Engine Control Unit update will be applied to the vehicle as an additional data monitoring tool to detect early signs of engine failure,” the recall notice reads.
