Just under 400 of Mazda’s city cars could have leaky fuel tanks.
Mazda Australia has issued a recall for the 2018 model-year Mazda 2 light car over concerns an issue with the fuel tank could cause a leak.
The Japanese brand reports affected vehicles may have fuel tanks that “exceed the specified manufacturing dimensions and place additional strain on the fuel tank retaining strap, which may weaken or potentially break”.
“If the fuel tank retaining strap weakens or breaks, the fuel tank may move out of position, potentially causing fuel to leak from the vehicle,” Mazda says.
“A fuel leak could result in a fire or serious injury to the driver and other road users.”
There’s a total of 397 units affected by this notice, available for sale between 30 July 2018 and 21 June 2019 – a VIN list is available here.
