Vehicles Affected: Approximately 1.6 million model-year 2015-18 Ford F-150 regular-cab and SuperCrew pickup trucks
The Problem: If a front seat belt pretensioner deploys as the result of a crash, the sparks may ignite materials such as carpeting or insulation within the B-pillar area, increasing the risk of fire.
The Fix: Dealers will remove the B-pillar insulation material and wiring harness tape, and install heat resistant tape, for free.
What Owners Should Do: Ford will begin notifying owners Sept. 24. Owners can call the automaker at 866-436-7332, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
