An incorrectly installed part could lead to a fuel leak and potential fire, according to the manufacturer.
The affected vehicles are stamped Model Years 2005-2012.
The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to improper installation of the fuel pump retaining rings they may crack and result in a fuel leak. There is an additional risk of damage due to heat exposure from the engine and exhaust pipe with the RX-8 model.
“A fuel leak at the fuel tank may result in an underbody fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders.”
