The fault could cause driver’s airbag inflator to rupture if deployed in a crash, according to the recall notice.
The affected vehicles are stamped model years 2000-2008.
The recall notice, filed with the Australian Department of Infrastructure and Transport says: “The driver’s airbag inflator may rupture in the event of airbag deployment in the event of a crash.
“In the event an airbag inflator ruptures, metal fragments may propel through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or death”.
A spokesperson for Volvo was not immediately available for comment. This story will be updated when more information become available.
