The Pick of the Day is something different, actually, quite different.
It is a 1987 Ford E350 van, which is unusual enough at this point, but this one is a Cabriolet, a dually version with a pickup bed, offered in an advertisement on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Quincy, Illinois.
Such vehicles, the seller notes, were produced only in the early 1990s.
Although not mentioned in the advertisement, such vehicles were produced by several post-factory companies and were designed for towing large, fifth-wheel trailers.
“The body is super straight and rock solid,” the seller reports. “It runs and drives great.
“It is equipped with the 460 engine, auto trans, power steering, power brakes, air, CB, power door locks, power windows, front captain chairs, rear sofa bed, dual rear sunroofs, upper and lower inside rear cabinets, grille guard, dual rear-view mirrors, rear sliding window, 50-gallon bed tank with tool box, driver’s side gas tank, Reece hitch and aluminum wheels.”
For the 1987 model year, the E350’s big 7.5-liter (460cid) V8 was rated at 214 horsepower with 362 pound-feet of torque and was linked to a 3-speed automatic transmission.
The seller reports 92,000 miles on the E350 Cabriolet’s odometer.
Photos with the ad show comfy captain’s chairs up front and a wide 3-place couch-like rear seat in a motorhome- or semi-tractor style rear section complete with lamp-shaded lighting, and an elevated roof with over-seat storage and skylights.
There’s also a short-side pickup bed with what could be room for carrying bicycles, dirt bikes, perhaps even an ATV? The bed includes a 50-gallon fuel tank and tool box.
The asking price is $9,500 for an unusual and head-turning vehicle.
