Vintage SUVs and off-roaders are all the rave in the collector car community as we continue to see the values for classic Broncos and Toyota FJs rise – some well into 6-figures.
The Pick of the Day is another classic SUV whose value is on the rise, a 1978 International Scout II that is “truly a one-of-a-kind example with a patina that would be impossible to replicate at any price,” says the Atlanta dealer advertising the car on ClassicCars.com.
This “Green Patina Machine” comes out of a collection from The Scoutman, a restoration shop fully dedicated to preserving the originality of Scouts to “keep this iconic, American-built brand on the road for future generations to experience and enjoy,” the shop explains on its website.
It’s finished in a funky Woodbine Green paint with factory “shadow” graphic appliques. The patina has been preserved with a professionally applied clear coat to lock in this Scout’s nostalgic originality, including a worn Desert International sticker on the rear.
“The end cap on the left rear quarter panel appears to have been repainted at some point in the past, but otherwise this truck is still wearing completely original plaint inside and out,” the dealer notes.
“Interior presents nicely with original floors protected by a fresh layer of clearcoat plus new door panels, dash pad and seat upholstery in russet plaid.
“All gauges are working and a modern AM/FM/CD stereo had been fitted in the dash with supplemental speakers mounted to either side of the rear bench seat.”
Power is supplied from an IH 345cid V8 factory rated at 168 horsepower and paired with a TorqueFlite 727 automatic transmission with just about 99,500 miles driven on it.
“Recent service includes a complete brake job with new master cylinder, an aluminum radiator, and service to both front and rear axles and the transmission, recent shocks and springs, and BF Goodrich all-terrain tires on factory chrome Rallye wheels,” says the dealer.
This original Scout II is offered for $48,900.
