The Pick of the Day is a 1954 Ford F-100 pickup truck that once sat in an Iowa barn for decades until it was rescued and restored in 2005.
According to the Sonoma, California, dealer advertising the pickup on ClassicCars.com, this second-generation F-series was found with only 23,000 miles on the odometer. The rescuer gave this 67-year-old icon a complete refresh while keeping many of its original components.
Ford introduced its second generation of the F-Series, the F100, in 1953 giving the truck an expanded wheelbase, longer hood, roomier cab and the most obvious change, a new grille. Production on these second-gen pickups ended in 1956.
Since this 1954 110-inch wheelbase half-ton example was revived, it has only been driven another 5,000 miles.
“The exterior was beautifully refinished in its original color, Glacier Blue, with great care taken to mask and preserve all of the original paint still present in the jambs and throughout the interior,” the seller says.
The bumpers were re-chromed, the grill refreshed, and the wood the bed was replaced. All the trim and badging found on the exterior are reported to be original.
“When you climb inside this old truck, it is quite incredible,” the seller continues. “The interior paint, kick panels, gauges, switched, headliner, etc., appear to be completely original with very little use.”
The front seat has been reupholstered in a blue perforated material that nicely matches the exterior color-matched blue dash.
Holding up the pickup are refinished steel rims, which the seller notes appear to be original, with an older set of bias-ply tires.
Under the hood sits the original 223cid 6-cylinder engine that was “left purposely untouched and still bears the factory ‘Cost Clipper 6’ decal, gold-finished valve cover and air cleaned housing,” the seller notes.
The engine is connected to a 3-speed manual transmission.
The block wears its original red paint and is believed to have its original starter, coil and fuel pump, radiator and generator that the seller says are in good working order.
“The truck starts instantly and runs smoothly with no smoke and sounds excellent,” says the seller. “Cooling, shifting, suspension, and brakes perform nicely, making it easy and relaxing to drive.”
This restored F-100 is offered for $36,900.
