You mean low level scan tool? High level only gives superficial codes, while low level goes more in the details. Hence the terminology.

Anytime you service your car, take the trans dipstick out if it has one and smell the fluid, if it has any kind of burnt smell at all or odd smell its time to change it.
Well, this is perfect timing ! My 2003 Chevy Z71 4×4 Suburban JUST started having tranny (not that kind !) problems. Just turned 136,600 miles and SUDDENLY one night the steering feels like it's in 4-wheel, and the motor acts like it's in neutral and just revs. Now I don't drive it…any ideas for an unemployed poor guy in Arlington (Texas). H E L P ! Go to a mechanic for $$$ or the dealer for $$$$$ ? I don't really have any $$$, but I need my vehicle in case I do get a job.Thanks for any help. Craig
Modern BMW has gone further, not only no dipstick they also introduced PLASTIC OIL SUMP! after 2 changes you destroy the screw and have to pay the price of a brand new OEM plastic oil sump, what a f#### rip-off! It's no longer engineers job but the accountants that has taken the lead with introducing $$$ spending innovative junk stuff in our cars!

Cars= the new computers…. made to last 2-3 yrs ? in some cases. Ive had two workhorses, a 92 corrolla i maxxed out @ 275k after buying it with 180k. And, a 2003 lincoln towncar i still drive with 356k after buying with 220k. Less than 500 put into either car in repairs. Worst car ive ever bought was a 2003 hyundai sonata. I buy my cars used at car auctions and either keep or flip for a profit
